Abstract
The present study investigated the effect of storyretelling program on the improvement of cohesive conjunctives in students with mental retardation whose language age was between 6 and 7. Multiple baseline across subjects was used for the total percent occurrence of cohesive conjunctives and the total percent occurrence of accurate use of cohesive conjunctives. A pretest and a posttest were given in order to test the effects on the percent occurrence of cohesive conjunctive and the percent occurrence of accurate use of cohesive conjunctives according to each type. The results of this study were obtained as follows: First, the total percent occurrence of cohesive conjunctives in three students increased, and it remained all above 80 percent after treatment. Second, the percent occurrence of cohesive conjunctives in each type increased in three students. "List" indicated the highest percent occurrence and "contrast" and "succession" also occurred in high percent. Third, the total percent occurrence of accurate use of cohesive conjunctives increased in three students. Fourth, the percent occurrence of accurate use of cohesive conjunctives in each type increased in three students. "List"recorded the highest percent of accurate use of cohesive conjunctives. In conclusion, storyretelling program positively affected the students with mental retardation in the use of cohesive conjunctives.
